It’s the wonderful renaissance Château de Carles in Fronsac managed by ‘bad boy’ Jean-Luc Thunevin. Fronsac is one of the most beautiful appellations in Bordeaux on hills overlooking the Dordogne – one of the hidden gems of Bordeaux and their lesser known wines are terrific value for money.
Château Montrose has undergone considerable renovation since its purchase in 2006 by Martin and Olivier Bougues. We discovered this amazing site overlooking the Gironde Estuary with its unique microclimate and pebbly terroir during the primeur week organized by Arblaster & Clarke.
Managing Director Nicolas Glumineau led us through a tutored tasting of the 2009 Château Montrose, La Dame de Montrose and their neighbouring Cru Bourgeois property Château Tronquoy Lalande. Without a doubt one of the (many) highlights of the week.
